Overcome your Food Addictions with the Best ... - Self Improvement

One of the number one problems in America is obesity triggered often by compulsive overeating. Thoughts of food often consume the lives of those suffering from this disease, and most of their eating is done in private. Binging, eating until you are physically sick, and rapid pace eating are additional problems associated with compulsive eating. These binges are most often followed by guilt and depression. Many food addicts know they have a problem, however, this addiction is just as hard as any other addiction to overcome.

Anxiety, stress, loneliness, and boredom are a few of the triggers that can cause emotional, compulsive overeating. When you learn how to control your emotions, food addictions are more easily overcome. Not only are there trigger emotions that cause overeating, but trigger foods as well that can influence mood by causing serotonin to be released in the brain. Other ways to release this chemical include, sleep and exercise; both are healthy alternatives to compulsive eating. You may also consider taking up a calming hobby, such as sewing, painting, meditation, or yoga.

Compulsive eating comes in different forms. One form of compulsive eating includes manic, uncontrolled, frantic overeating all in one sitting. This is known as binging. Known as grazing, the second type of compulsive eating is snacking on smaller portions of food throughout the entire day. Grazing, when done using nutritional foods has proven to be an effective way to keep the metabolism working at a healthy rate. Unfortunately, however, most grazers choose unhealthy, comfort trigger foods instead of healthy, metabolism boosting ones. Over-consumption of calories is an almost daily recurrence with both forms of food addictions. In turn, this leads to high cholesterol, diabetes, heart diseases, hypertension and other long-term health problems. Mental issues, such as depression and guilt, many times will also develop when a person is suffering from food addiction.

As with any other addiction, outside therapy is used in many cases of compulsive eating to help assess the root of the problem and fix it. Regardless of whether they find help on their own, or with the help of family and friends, the majority of food addicts will need therapy eventually. Many binge/compulsive eaters are extremely private and want to keep people out of their personal business. Emotional awareness, is a great aid in overcoming this addiction.

Emotional control is vital in overcoming food addictions. Unchecked emotions can lead a number of unhealthy consequences, such as stress, fatigue and even depression. Different options should be explored for each individual person. Emotional voids can be filled with healthy habits, and when you learn to do this you will be well on your way to optimal health.
