How To Deal With Falling In Love With Your Friend - Into Relationships

Have you been friends with someone for awhile and suddenly you find yourself attracted to them? Many people believe that a man and a woman cannot be friends with one another and that eventually they will end up connecting physically.

You may have found that your friend has all of the qualities in a partner that you have been looking for and now you don?t know what to do with those feelings. It can be awkward when you realize that you have feelings for someone that has always been ?just a friend?. Where do you go from here?

The first thing you need to do is decide if you are going to share your feelings with your friend. While many say that a man and a woman cannot just be friends, your friend may be able to see you like this. You need to determine if you are willing to risk your friendship to possibly have a romantic relationship. Unless you are certain that your friend feels the same way, you run the risk of making them uncomfortable.

Not only do you have to worry about how your friend will feel when you tell them how you feel, you also have to worry about whether or not you want to risk the friendship for a chance at a relationship. If you pursue a relationship and it doesn?t work out, you may not just be losing a romantic interest, you may be losing a friend, is that worth it?

If you decide to go for it, you may find that changing from being just friends to being romantic partners is interesting. Generally we share a lot more of our baggage with friends than we would ever share with someone we were dating. You have to be comfortable with the fact that your friend has seen the best and the worst of you, and vice versa, and you may have to work hard not to hold these things against one another or use it when you are angry or hurt.

Dating a friend can be a really good thing because the comfort level is already there. It will be a different experience dating someone that you already know so well, but it could also be a lot of fun. Just take it as it comes and always remember to take care of your friend who is now your romantic interest, you liked them before you started dating so you owe it to them to take who they are and their needs into consideration. If you do this, even if things don?t work out, you will have a better chance of having a friendship after your romantic relationship.

Obama stumps for jobs bill in GOP leaders' turf

WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama is marketing his massive jobs proposal from an outdated bridge that links the home states of his two chief congressional Republican rivals, a symbolic and cheeky maneuver designed to apply pressure on the GOP and convey resolve in the face of a sputtering economy.

Obama will make his pitch Thursday for $447 billion in tax cuts, jobless aid and public works projects at the Brent Spence Bridge south of Cincinnati, an aging span that connects House Speaker John Boehner's state of Ohio with Kentucky, home of Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell. The politics are clear.

"The point here is that it's not an accident that we're headed to that area," said White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer.

Strategically, the visit serves Obama's legislative and political goals. The president is making his jobs bill the focus of his fall agenda amid broad public disapproval over his handling of the economy. The trip also raises Obama's profile in Ohio, a state that he won in 2008 but that George W. Bush also won twice.

Public opinion polls show only about 1 in 4 people approves of Obama's economic performance. The president is seeking to put his differences with Republicans into sharper relief and shift to them some of the responsibility for the nation's high unemployment and feeble economic growth.

"All across those states there are roads, bridges, schools that unemployed construction workers could be building right now if the Republican leaders in Congress were willing to work with the president and the Democrats to do something that would create jobs in the economy," Pfeiffer said.

The bridge itself, deemed "functionally obsolete" by the federal government, is already scheduled to be replaced. It is part of a major north-south artery that officials estimate carries 4 percent of the nation's gross domestic product annually.

Pending environmental analyses and acquisition of rights of way mean construction won't begin until 2015.

McConnell and Boehner, both of whom have supported the bridge project, dismissed the visit as a ploy.

"President Obama may think the best way to distract people from the challenges we face is to stand near a bridge in a swing state and pit one group of Americans against another and hope his critics look bad if they don't go along with him," McConnell said on the Senate floor. "But I don't think he's fooling anybody."

Added Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck, "We want to work with the president to support job creation, but political stunts and empty promises bring us no closer to finding common ground."

Obama's visit comes a day after the House rejected a measure providing $3.7 billion for disaster relief as part of a bill to keep the government running through mid-November, raising the possibility of another confrontation over a government shutdown.

The 230-195 defeat came at the hands of Democrats and tea party Republicans. The White House sided with Democrats and welcomed the outcome of the vote.

The president's defiant approach to Boehner and McConnell represents a shift from his outreach to Boehner this summer, when the two men tried to work out a deal that would extend the nation's borrowing authority and cut long-term deficits as well.

Then, the president took Boehner golfing. Now he's taking him to task.

Obama on Monday announced a $3 trillion deficit-reduction package, half of which consists of tax increases. It was a direct challenge to Republicans and Boehner in particular, who last week flatly ruled out tax increases as way to lower long-term deficits.

"The speaker says we can't have it 'my way or the highway,'" Obama said Monday. "And then basically says, my way ? or the highway. That's not smart. It's not right. "

Obama's visit will be his second to Ohio in two weeks. Vice President Joe Biden has already been to the state twice this month.

It's not the first time the president has taken on Boehner in his home state. A year ago, Obama went to Parma, Ohio, just days after Boehner had delivered an economic speech to the City Club of Cleveland. Obama criticized the speaker by name for his policy proposals.

XE.com - UPDATE 3-German, Swiss finance ministers sign tax deal

By Sarah Marsh and Markus Wacket

BERLIN, Sept 21 (Reuters) - Germany and Switzerland signed an agreement on Wednesday to tax money stashed by German citizens in secret accounts that could net Berlin billions of euros and force the Swiss banking sector to clean up its act.

The bilateral agreement could resolve a diplomatic dispute that peaked when a Swiss politician compared a former German finance minister to a Nazi. But it still requires parliamentary approval, which could prove tricky in Germany.

'We both are convinced that we have solved an open dilemma in a good way with this deal that sometimes weighed on the relations between Switzerland and Germany,' German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble told a news conference in Berlin.

Switzerland has struck a similar deal with Britain to regulate untaxed funds and is looking to settle disputes with other countries including the United States.

'We don't want to have any untaxed money in Switzerland,' Swiss Finance Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf said.

To ensure people step forward and pay their tax bills, the deal has a provision requiring Swiss banks to pay 2 billion Swiss francs up front to Germany within 25 days of the deal coming into force. The money will then be re-credited as bills are settled.

There is also a clause to prevent tax dodgers from moving money to a place such as the Cayman Islands to circumvent the new deal.

Germany, whose nationals have an estimated 150 billion francs hidden in Swiss accounts, is increasingly eager to claw back funds as the worsening euro zone debt crisis expands its role as the region's main paymaster.

But in Berlin, the deal still has to pass through the Bundestag, Germany's lower house of parliament, and the Bundesrat upper house, where Chancellor Angela Merkel's government no longer has a majority.

German states run by the opposition Social Democrats (SPD) and represented in the Bundesrat have said they want to block the deal, which lets Switzerland preserve most client confidentiality, saying it is too soft on tax evaders.

'We will form a political front against this deal,' said SPD parliamentary leader Thomas Oppermann on Wednesday.

The states of Bremen, North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony-Anhalt said they would not approve the deal in the Bundesrat.

Protesters outside the German finance ministry chanted, 'Down with the tax agreement' and waved wads of fake money while holding up ironic cardboard heart cut-outs urging onlookers to 'have a heart for tax evaders.'

Under the deal, effective from 2013, existing funds will be taxed at a rate between 19 percent and 34 percent, based on how long the money has been stashed away and the rate of capital gains.

Future investment income and capital gains will be taxed at 26.375 percent, in line with Germany's current flat-rate withholding tax.

COMPROMISE TOO SOFT?

Strict secrecy has helped Switzerland build up a $2 trillion offshore financial sector, and in recent years the country has faced an international campaign against tax evasion as cash-strapped governments seek to boost revenue.

But by introducing a withholding tax on income at the source, the deal with Germany heads off any automatic exchange of information with Switzerland on client accounts.

This goes against European Union efforts to clamp down on banking secrecy and has prompted strong objections.

'This quasi-tax amnesty is not only morally abject but also crazy from a fiscal policy viewpoint,' Germany's main union federation, DGB, said in a statement on Wednesday.

'Tax evaders may remain anonymous and are even rewarded retrospectively and legalised,' it said. 'They can now transfer their money without anyone noticing into the next tax haven.'

Switzerland has agreed to cooperate more readily in the hunt for tax cheats in exchange for Germany's agreement not to continue the practice of buying stolen bank data, an issue that had soured ties.

If they have good grounds to suspect fiscal evasion, German officials will be allowed to put in between 750 and 999 requests with their Swiss counterparts over a two-year period.

But they will not be able to launch any large-scale 'fishing expeditions' for tax dodgers. Critics say this is not good enough.

Germany also agreed not to take legal action against employees of Swiss banks.

Credit Suisse, Switzerland's second-largest bank, said this week it would pay a fine of 150 million euros ($206 million) to end an investigation of its employees in the German city of Duesseldorf over allegations that they helped citizens dodge taxes.

Swiss regional bank Zuercher Kantonalbank (ZKB) said on Wednesday it had been informed it was subject of an investigation by U.S. authorities.

The deal with Germany follows a diplomatic flare-up between the two neighbours. Former German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrueck said the Swiss were like American Indians running from the cavalry due to the country's stance over tax evasion, prompting a Swiss politician to compare him to a Nazi.

Remembering R.E.M.

Remembering R.E.M.

AP/Warner Bros.

R.E.M. in 1994

R.E.M.'s low-key announcement Wednesday that the band would "call it a day" after 31 years generated an outpouring of memories from generations of music fans for whom the Athens, Ga., band was a beloved gateway to all the music beyond the pop charts. Salon asked other pioneering musicians for their reflections on the band's legacy -- and we'll continue to update this story as more contributions arrive.

Bob Mould

H?sker D?, Sugar, author of the memoir "See a Little Light:?The Trail of Rage and Melody"

Over the years, I've found a handy and trusty way to separate the great bands from the good ones. Are they real fans of music?

The strongest memories I have of R.E.M. revolve around their deep knowledge of popular music, fandom and respect for their predecessors, and unconditional support of fellow players. I spent many late nights hanging out with Peter Buck, witnessing his unbridled excitement as he played records I'd never heard. I watched Michael Stipe discover and nurture new artists like the late Vic Chesnutt and Magnapop, while simultaneously remaining a devoted follower of Patti Smith. Even the folks who worked for R.E.M. were giving and helpful -- opening spots on shows, loaning equipment when passing through Athens and sharing professional advice and contacts.

The music they created was often paradoxical -- literate, yet visceral; pioneering, yet reverential; commercially appealing, yet deeply personal. The influence they had on 1980s American college rock, and the waves that rippled from their stone hitting the water, is immeasurable. It's hard to know when to give up the ghost. The consolation is that R.E.M. were able to pick the time and place, and to exit with grace and dignity. Godspeed R.E.M.

Mac McCaughan

Superchunk &?Merge Records co-founder

R.E.M. validated the South as a source of alternative music. In high school, we became such R.E.M. fans with "Murmur" to the point that when "Reckoning" came out it was a big deal, probably the first time we knew the release date of an album and then went and got it immediately and wanted to be the first to know it inside and out.

The band played around here a lot. They did two nights at Page Auditorium in Durham on the Duke Campus after "Reckoning" came out and the shows were loose and epic. You knew everyone in the pit. Definitely felt like, "Well, this is the last time we'll see them in a place this small." I got my "So. Central Rain" seven-inch signed at the Record Bar in-store they did. I wrote about those shows in a short-lived zine I put out complete with terrible dark photos from the pit.

Being from the South, I think fans around here felt like R.E.M. belonged to us in some way. We were listening to hardcore and R.E.M.

Dean Wareham

Luna, Dean &?Britta, Galaxie 500, author of the memoir "Black Postcards:?A Rock &?Roll Romance"

I met Peter Buck in 1988 the night Galaxie 500 played the old 40 Watt Club in Athens; he kindly invited us all to stay at his house, which was nice because we couldn't afford a hotel. It was a fun night. They were always very supportive of younger bands.

A year or so later Peter jammed onstage with us at the Point in Atlanta, but had to endure a couple of heckles from the indie police, who didn't appreciate a rock star sharing our stage.

I congratulate R.E.M. on breaking up; that's what bands are supposed to do.

Vanessa Briscoe Hay

Lead singer of Pylon, the Athens, Ga., band whose song "Crazy" was an R.E.M. live staple and appeared on "Dead Letter Office"

R.E.M. surprised me today. I thought it was Leonard Cohen's birthday! Shopping day! The equinox! Then came the news. My friend Maureen ran upstairs to tell me and soon I was checking my email and Facebook -- and yes, it was true. The R.E.M. website had crashed. That said even more.

Today the sky in Athens, Ga., is threatening rain at one minute, with sunshine pouring down the next. I have mixed feelings, just like that sky. Sadness on the end of an era. No more shows or records to look forward to. Happiness that it was not something sad that caused their demise. They chose to end their career on their own terms. Without movement or change, there is the true death.

I remember the first time that I saw them perform at the church for K.O.'s birthday party. (R.E.M.'s first show in April 1980.) Girls screamed and ran to the front of the stage. It was sweaty, hot and dark. The vines were growing through the walls of the sanctuary. Up on the stage, R.E.M. had that something extra right away. That mysterious thing. I watched from high in the rafters of the church as they shook it down. They never gave it up or sold it out. Let's remember them as one of the great bands of all time, and count ourselves lucky to have been there too. Thank you, R.E.M., for 31 great years. You have made the world a better place.

Craig Finn

The Hold Steady

I spent most of my high school days completely obsessed with R.E.M. All my friends were too. I knew some of their stuff from the radio but really got into them in ninth grade on the "Fables of the Reconstruction" record. Quickly working backward I came to "Reckoning," which remains one of my favorite records ever. I still connect the song "Harborcoat" with entering a new school that fall; it brings back the smell of the hallways, my red plaid scarf and my cassette Walkman. Their music had a sense of mystery to it, the hazy jangle and the mumbled words. I think this was a huge draw for me. They were deliberately vague, and it pulled me in. I spent hours on the floor looking at the record jackets for clues as to what it all meant. I videotaped their television performances and studied them for nuance. As a young Minnesotan, the Southern influence of their music and lyrics came off as so exotic to me. R.E.M. never explained to you exactly what they meant. That's cool.

I saw the "Life's Rich Pageant" tour from pretty lame seats in the Roy Wilkins Auditorium, so when they came through for the "Document" tour, I was not going to be in the balcony. My friend Eddy and I camped out for tickets at the Southdale Dayton's ticket office. It was a brisk fall night, and it was freezing. It was worth it, though; we got pretty great seats. The show was amazing, and we saw it from right up close. Since then, R.E.M. has put together a career that is impressive on 10 different levels. They always mattered, and never embarrassed themselves. In rock 'n' roll, that is no small feat.

Forensic Software for your Business ... - Technology Computer World

In this day and age, data is considered to be one of the most valuable assets for a business organization. As a matter of fact, for some firms they can be even more important than their tangible assets. If you are running a business that deals with loads of customer data that are stored in your computer hard drive, it can turn out to be devastating if that information gets deleted due to some unfortunate incident. With the world getting more digitalized day by day, the necessity of having a well organized data recovery plan has become a must for the business organizations since the nature of the data that you might have lost can cause thousands if not millions of dollar for your organization.

This is when a forensic data recovery software can become extremely important. The software is programmed to retrieve any deleted or lost file from a system and thus can help you to avoid any kind of significant loss. The data recovery software are not only useful in recovering files but they can also be used to classify and manage your files in an orderly fashion which is also important for the business organizations to operate efficiently.

Now you might wonder why should you go for a data recovery software to retrieve your lost data instead of calling an expert to get the job done. Well one of the key reasons why I would recommend you to use a forensic software or data recovery software initially is because they are cheaper in comparison with the expert service. So if such a software can actually solve your problem, you really don?t have to call in a data recovery expert and pay him/her loads of cash for the service. However, in cases where the software might come up with any limitation, you can go for expert help to solve the problem. But I think initially you should consider trying out a forensic software to see if it can serve the purpose for you.

So of you are now planning to buy a forensic software, where do you go? Well no where! Just sit in front of your pc and search for reliable forensic data recovery software online. You will have a list of websites in no time which will offer you data recovery tools that you can buy over internet. But make sure that you are choosing a renowned company so that the tool(s) that you are purchasing are reliable and effective. Utilize the customer support of the company to learn more about their software.

Cengage Learning - Gale Debuts Enhanced Career Transitions ...

September 15, 2011

Farmington Hills, Mich., September 15, 2011 ? Gale, part of Cengage Learning and a leading publisher of research and reference resources for libraries, schools and businesses, today announced major enhancements to Career Transitions, its online career service tool. The features include a new user interface, reporting tools for gauging user activity and additional job-seeking and career exploration activities. These enhancements allow for easier and faster user access and career assessment, and were implemented based on extensive customer and user feedback.

?In these difficult economic times, more and more citizens are looking for efficient tools to help them find work,? said Gerry Sawchuk, publisher, public library solutions, Gale. ?With these enhancements to Career Transitions, job and career seekers will be able to improve their chances of finding sustainable employment.?

In addition to the new interface, the following features were added to Career Transitions:

  • Interactive Interview Practice: A custom interview simulation to help users get over interview intimidation and prepare in a safe and non-judgmental environment. In addition, users will find targeted tips and advice in the form of articles and videos on job searching and applying to networking and career strategies, among other topics.
  • Match Experience to New Careers: This unique feature enables users to identify a job or military occupation they?ve held, and explore related new career opportunities based on their experience. Match Experience helps users translate their experience into new opportunities they may not have considered.
  • Trends, Activities, Outcomes & Reporting: Provides detailed insight into the activities users are engaged in and what they are accomplishing. Helps librarians deliver measurable results to their institution, community and funding partners with:

-?? Visual, easy-to-generate reports detailing what users are accomplishing

-?? Optional user survey mechanism to identify transformative value (jobs, progress) and success

The new activities reporting feature added to Career Transitions will give librarians access to useful information and metrics that will demonstrate the success of their job and career resources in a visual, detailed report. Reports can be generated at any time, and cover every activity ? including job searching and tracking, resumes, cover letters, assessments and more ? that users can experience within Career Transitions. Librarians can also gather valuable user data on career search trends, such as ranked information on the top careers users are targeting and what specific advice they are seeking.

?Public libraries are prime destinations for career research, yet they are under increasing pressure to demonstrate their value to the community and provide quantifiable metrics and results to maintain their funding,? said Sawchuk. ?This new reporting tool will allow libraries to instantaneously collect valuable data that can be used in many ways, including demonstrating success to legislatures and budget holders.?

Other additions to Career Transitions include updates for more than 1,100 careers; 1,000 videos including ?Day in the Life? interviews with people in different fields; spotlights on new and emerging careers, as well as green careers; a career ladder that positions similar opportunities according to education/training level; and an education/training finder to match careers with education and training programs from nearly 9,000 postsecondary institutions across the U.S. and more than 300 online continuing education courses. In addition, the guided resume and cover letter creator helps users who are often intimidated to start this process find a quick and efficient path to presenting their background and abilities in the best light. It guides users step-by-step through each section of creating a resume and cover letter.

These new features have been added to Career Transitions at no additional cost to customers. For more information, visit http://www.gale.cengage.com/careertransitions/. To speak with a Gale publisher or to set up a trial of Career Transitions, please contact Kristina Massari at kristina.massari@cengage.com.

Indoor Family Activities to Draw You Closer Together

In today?s society, family has not been a priority for some time. Many people who spend their days working to earn the money to support their dependents forget that doing things together as a family is an important aspect of home life for children and adults alike. But what can you do to help foster a family togetherness?

Image from Getty

Family activities don't have to be extravagant at all.

A family activity you can all do together is a wonderful way to ensure you all spend time together and relate to each other on a daily ? or at least regular ? basis. Whether this is swimming, playing football, or going skiing doesn?t really matter; the important part is that you find an activity every member of the family truly enjoys and spend the money required to get you all trying it out and deciding on whether or not you want to continue pursuing it as a family.

Obviously, not everyone has the money to shell out on new activities like mountain-biking and snowboarding. But you do probably have the money for items such as board games and other family activities such as painting, puzzling, or even reading together.

Clear a cupboard in or near your living room or dining room (wherever you plan for family activities to take place) and fill it with board games, decks of cards, and other such fun items. Small children can enjoy more grown-up games if they get to play on the same team as mummy, daddy, or an older sibling. Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit (which can be played with additional decks of question cards geared towards smaller children) and more simplistic games like Coppit or Mousetrap can make for a really enjoyable evening.

Image from Getty

Board games will open up a host of conversational topics.

The most important part of family activities is not the activity; it is the sense of togetherness and the opportunity for conversation. You may find that often, a family retreats into silence or pre-ordained conversations about experiences of the day; the habit of doing things together will help you develop a way of communicating more freely and readily together and will allow you all to become more comfortable as a group and a family.

Don?t forget to treasure every moment with your family. Live each day as if it were precious; after all, it is. You can build stronger relationships and enjoy each other more by taking time out for family activities and learning to have fun together. Enjoy!

With funereal grief, America marks September 11 (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) ? Children yearned for lost parents and grown men and women sobbed in raw grief on the hard stone bearing the names of nearly 3,000 dead as America commemorated the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

The name of every person killed in al Qaeda's hijacked plane attacks was read on Sunday in the nearly five-hour-long centerpiece of a heart-wrenching ceremony where the World Trade Center twin towers stood.

"I haven't stopped missing my Dad. He was awesome," said Peter Negron, a child when his father, Pete, was killed in one of the towers. "I wish my Dad had been there to teach me how to drive, ask a girl out on a date and see me graduate from high school and a hundred other things I can't even begin to name."

There were smaller ceremonies in Shanksville, Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon outside Washington, the other sites were 19 men from the Islamic militant group al Qaeda crashed hijacked airliners on the sunny Tuesday morning of September 11, 2001.

The attacks led U.S. forces to invade Afghanistan to topple the Taliban rulers who had harbored al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and Washington began a "war on terror" that ousted Iraq's Saddam Hussein and persists on several fronts to this day.

"Ten years have passed since a perfect blue sky morning turned into the blackest of nights," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at New York's Ground Zero.

"Since then, we've lived in sunshine and in shadow, and although we can never unsee what happened here, we can also see that children who lost their parents have grown into young adults, grandchildren have been born and good works and public service have taken root to honor those we loved and lost."

Thousands gathered at the site on a clear morning to grieve. With security tight and no traffic, there was an eerie silence where the 110-storey skyscrapers collapsed a decade ago, sending a noxious cloud over lower Manhattan.

President Barack Obama, who was set to visit all three attack sites Sunday, read from Psalm 46 in New York: "God is our refuge and strength."

RUBBING NAMES

The ceremony -- with the wail of bagpipes, youthful voices singing the national anthem and firefighters holding aloft a tattered American flag retrieved from Ground Zero -- drew tears. Family members wore T-shirts with the faces of the dead, carried photos, flowers and flags in an outpouring of emotion.

For the first time, relatives saw the just-finished memorial and touched the stone where the names of their dead loved ones were etched. Some left flowers, others small teddy bears. Some used pencils to rub the names on paper, some took pictures, others leaned against the stone and cried.

The names of the dead were read by wives and husbands, fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers and children, some choked with emotion at their personal loss.

"May your soul finally rest in peace. Your son Nathan and I, as the years go by, grow strong. Goodbye, my dear friend, my teacher and my hero," said Candy Glazer.

Glazer's husband, Edmund Glazer, cheerfully called his wife from Flight 11 not long before he died when the plane hit the north tower -- the first of that day's horrific events.

The September 11, 2001, attacks claimed the lives of people from more than 90 countries. They were followed by al Qaeda bombing assaults in London, Madrid and elsewhere and brought an international campaign aimed at ferreting out their members.

"God bless every soul that we lost," said former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani who was called "America's mayor" for his leadership after the attacks.

At the Pentagon ceremony, Vice President Joe Biden said, "Al Qaeda and bin Laden never imagined that the 3,000 people who lost their lives that day would inspire 3 million to put on the uniform, and harden the resolve of 300 million Americans."

"SO MANY NAMES ..."

The New York memorial includes two plazas in the shape of the footprints of the twin towers with cascading 30 foot waterfalls. Around the perimeters of pools in the center of each plaza are the names of the victims of the September 11 attacks and an earlier 1993 attack at the trade center.

Obama visited the North Memorial Pool, which sits in the footprint of the north tower. He walked around it hand-in-hand with first lady Michelle Obama, former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura.

The president touched the etched names of the dead before he greeted some family members.

"So many names, there is barely room on the walls of the heart," said former New York Governor George Pataki, reading from the Billy Collins poem "The Names."

Police in New York and Washington were on high alert against a "credible but unconfirmed" threat of an al Qaeda plot to attack the United States again on the 10th anniversary.

At Shanksville, Obama laid at a wreath where a plane crashed after passengers overwhelmed hijackers intent of hitting the White House or U.S. Capitol. Chants of "USA, USA" broke out from the crowd, gathered at the foot of a grassy hill. The Obamas talked at length with family members. "Thank you for keeping us safe," one man yelled out to him.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett said the passengers on Flight 93 -- remembered forever in Todd Beamer's "Let's roll" rallying cry -- "set a new standard for American bravery."

Pope Benedict prayed for September 11 victims and appealed to those with grievances to "always reject violence."

In May, nearly a decade after September 11, U.S. forces killed al Qaeda founder bin Laden at his hideout in Pakistan. The attacks prompted wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, where the Pentagon still has a large number of troops and where violence persists.

"The 9/11 attacks were the beginning of a long winter in world history," NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in Brussels. "But events in the Middle East have renewed our faith that although the desire for freedom can be repressed, it can never be extinguished. The Arab spring is a new season of hope for us all."

Sunday's Ground Zero ceremony had moments of silence marking when the planes hit the twin towers as well as when they collapsed. Other moments of silence marked when a plane hit the Pentagon and another crashed in Shanksville.

After a faltering start, there are signs of rebuilding progress at the World Trade Center. The new One World Trade Center rises more than 80 stories above the ground as it inches to its planned 1,776-foot (541-meter) height -- symbolic of the year of America's independence from Britain.

For many -- particularly the more than 1,100 families who received no remains of their dead -- Sunday was the closest they came to a funeral for loved ones. With the memorial complete, it offered for the first time something resembling a final resting place and a formal place to mourn.

"When we came out here 10 years ago there was a hole in the earth and that's how we felt," said Dakota Hale, 25, of Denver, who lost his stepfather, flight attendant Alfred Marchand.

"Now, 10 years later there is grass and water, and it feels kind of like a new beginning."

Why Use Social Media As Part Of Your Marketing Plan | How to ...

Email This Post

socialmediamktgYou most likely are making use of social media to keep in touch with your friends and family but did you know that you can use social media as part of your marketing plan? Do you know the benefits of using social media as part of your marketing plan?

As a small business owner, this type of marketing can certainly draw traffic to your site and then clients to your business. It is a great tool for building a targeted, responsive list. And yet, where do you start with social media and exactly how involved do you need to get?

If you want to grow your business and start increasing your client database, social media is your least expensive and fastest approach to take. Here are three quick ways to get you started in your social media marketing plan.

Utilize LinkedIn to Develop Your Client Base

- First, you should create a real interesting profile for your company and in the interests section, you will want to use your best keyword phrases.

- Make sure that should you have a blog and put the link to your blog in your profile. This is a good method for people to find out just who you are as well as what your company is all about.

- Put your client list into relevant groups and start communicating with them.

- Utilize LinkedIn as a way to recruit clients for your business and also to get your message out there.

Utilize Facebook to Promote Your Business

- Create groups in Facebook and interact with those groups regularly.

- If you are submitting content to article submission sites, some of these directories have areas where you can place your Facebook and Twitter facts. Then, every time you submit an article to the directory, the directory will instantly publish your post on your Facebook and Twitter accounts.

- If your group members and clients have Facebook pages, make comments on their pages. Assist and address their inquiries.

- Make ?friends? with others in your niche topic area

Just keep in mind, when you are making use of social media sites for business, building a very good relationship with your friends is more crucial compared to the quantity of friends you have. As you increase your Facebook friends list and converse with your clients frequently, you will see internet traffic increase to your internet site.

Make use of Twitter to Increase Your Business Presence in Social Media

- Utilizing Twitter, you?ll want to generate lists which are specific to particular topics and you?ll need to join lists that have to do with your topic.

- A good suggestion for Twitter exposure is to give away a weekly report on your theme. Don?t forget to include a ?Please Re-Tweet? or an RT so that people will spread your information throughout the web.

- Utilize the # hashtags and follow people where appropriate.

Some recommendations when starting to use your social media marketing plan:

1. Don?t invest a great deal of time on the social media sites. Only spend about 15 minutes or so on each site.

2. Your daily approach should be to make good and related comments on good and related posts. Remember to use images.

3. Grow relationships with your followers and gather your own friends with your opt-in pages.

4. Don?t neglect your picture, a professional picture, on your pages. Those who use social media sites want to see who they are corresponding with.

In summary, social media sites should be part of your business marketing plan. The thing to remember is to build strong relationships with people but not to invest lots of time doing it. Just begin small and let go from there.
