The Assistant / Associate Professor of Education reports to the Chair of the Education Department and is responsible teaching courses, mentoring candidates, and participating in the continuous improvement of the undergraduate and graduate degree programs which leads to initial licensure or advanced expertise in teaching. Position is open for specialization in either elementary or secondary levels.

Warner Pacific College offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, both in initial licensure endorsement areas and leading to additional qualifications. Specific areas of expertise being sought include one or more of the following: curriculum development and/or review, literacy instruction, ESOL pedagogy, technology integration, special education, assessment, other areas of exceptional expertise capable of contributing to the growth and development of Warner Pacific's program. Doctorate in education or related field, college teaching experience, Oregon teaching license and recent experience in the P-12 environment required for fulltime positions. Experience at an NCATE accredited institution a plus.

Essential Functions:

  • Participate with department colleagues in preparation of future educators through rigorous course work, assessment, practice and training.
  • Teach assigned courses preparing candidates for licensure or supporting endorsement areas.
  • Advise and mentor students in the department.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with the requirements of the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission.
  • Engage in professional development activities which support one's exceptional expertise.
  • Support the curriculum of the department in one or more of the following areas:
    • ?Curriculum development and/or review
    • ?Literacy instruction
    • ?Cultural competency
    • ?ESOL pedagogy
    • ?Technology integration
    • ?Special education, assessment
    • ?Other areas of exceptional expertise capable of contributing to the growth and development of Warner Pacific's program.
  • Keep apprised of latest developments and requirements in the field of education.
  • Ability to articulate and model current best practices in teaching.
  • Contribute to the support and implementation of the College Strategic Plan and participate in Warner Pacific College professional development opportunities.
  • Adhere to College policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate commitment to a Christian liberal arts education by upholding the mission of the College and abiding by the Employment Standards and Lifestyle Agreement.
  • Be inclusive and sensitive in terms of human relations and human differences, in regard to areas of national origin, ethnicity, culture, gender, and disabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to clearly present data to faculty and staff
  • Ability to conduct empirical research related to education
  • Ability to work collegially with faculty, staff and students
  • Ability to understand and positively promote the college's mission, core themes
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in education or related field.
  • College teaching experience.
  • Oregon teaching license (any level).
  • Recent experience in the PK-12 environment required.
  • Experience at an NCATE accredited institution a plus.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in preparation of NCATE application.
  • Familiarity with DATATEL integrated resource management system.
  • Record of a research agenda related to critical issues in education.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with P-12 and community partners.
  • Ability to teach effectively and mentor adult learners as well as traditional students.
  • Service in positions of leadership in professional organizations.
  • Experience in grant writing and administration.
