Zoom Cambodia ? Blog Archive Bachelor Degree Programs ...

Architects and interior designers are more often working with sustainable products and technologies. Students interested in green design these days have a variety of programs from which to choose. They can specialize in green design as part of bachelor?s degree programs or learn about it in general architecture and design classes.

Design and architecture students might challenge their imaginations and find new ways to utilize their talents when enrolled in on-campus courses and schools online. The Desert Sun in Palm Springs recently reported on a motorized window covering business intended to conserve energy use and costs. Elite Traveler recently interviewed a carpeting manufacturer whose Green Label Plus certified company produces non-allergenic products made with raw materials from renewable resources. This same business also relies on electronic data storage as a means of reducing paper use, the Elite Traveler report noted.

Students who enroll in an art and design college in Denver, Col., might learn more about innovative offerings such as these as part of field trips, site visits, guest lectures and discussions. In addition to a Green Design Area of Emphasis, this particular school provides standard design classes where students might learn about sustainable practices such as the energy reduction that natural light provides while also enhancing an individual?s well being. In Boston, a college?s sustainable design institute offers an online certificate program for students interested in the green movement.

Students enrolled in bachelor?s degree programs in design and architecture might also consider volunteerism as a means of gaining hands on experience and connecting with the community. There are a variety of environmental organizations with which students these days can work. Doing so might enhance their sustainable experiences and help them with their school work as a result.

Students concerned about fitting in on-campus classes while they hold such a position may want to consider online degree programs. Such methods of study are more flexible than traditional bachelors degree programs, and students will have the free schedule to work with local environmental groups. Even if earth-friendly individuals simply want an activity outside of classes, this kind of volunteer work can boost a resume and make one seem more attractive to future employers.

Those working toward interior design qualifications who want to help the environment through their studies might also accomplish this by taking courses at schools online. With online college, university and technical school programs, student?s don?t have to commute back and forth to campus. By studying in one place ? for many students, this tends to be at home ? individuals lessen their carbon footprint.

Different organizations offer green credentials for those who work in architecture and design. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, for example, is available to professionals with LEED registered projects recognized for attempts to conserve water and energy, reduced carbon dioxide emissions and more.

In addition to colleges, universities and technical schools, the American Society of Interior Designers holds continuing education classes. The society, along with Hospitality Design Magazine, in April presented Earth Minded Awards for sustainable design. The facilities that were recognized had used materials such as reclaimed barn wood and installed systems, such as rain water catchments that save some 41,000 gallons of water a year and gray water facilities, where bath and shower water can be recycled. These innovations are affirming that graduates of bachelors degree programs from traditional and online accredited universities will find their new skills and idea a breath of fresh air.

The Video Game Console Culture of Today

???

By : Jason Bacot ?? 14 or more times read
Submitted 2011-09-02 13:23:54 Video games are now at or near the top of entertainment options among the younger generation, and the older crowd really enjoys them as well. The graphics on these games have become so realistic that playing games is almost like living through a movie. Video games have that kind of pull these days. The popular games like Red Dead Redemption, Starcraft 2 and Warcraft are perfect examples of how gaming and gaming consoles have evolved. It is no longer about simply putting out an addictive game now the game must be addictive and spectacular visually. Anything less than this is not going to be good enough in today s gaming world.

There are many different gaming consoles on the market today, and the most popular are Playstation 3, X box 360 and the Wii. They all are miles ahead of the older gaming consoles that were popular years ago. From the Atari all the way through the Playstation, Playstation 2, Gamecube, Dreamcast, Ninetendo and many others, game consoles have taken a huge leap ahead.

The Wii game console is like nothing we have ever been able to enjoy before. You get to actually act out the game as you play, and the game responds to that movement. Many people never thought that this type of gaming interaction would be possible, but it is available for a mere pittance to every gamer. It is amazing that we can now play gaming technology for pennies on the dollar when this same technology was worth thousands only a few short years ago. There was a time when these systems would have cost 100 times what they do today.

Another popular genre of gaming is the portable variety. These have come a very long way as well with eye popping graphics and options galore. You can now take most games along with you and play them in the palm of your hand. The most popular of these include PSP, Nintendo DS and Gameboy, and this sector is continuing to grow at a rapid rate. New games and consoles are coming out every single year, and it can be tough to keep up with all the latest trends. Still, it seems that the portable gaming industry catches up not long after the regular consoles debuts a product.

If you enjoy video games, this is the Golden age. Not only can you play game consoles and portable game consoles, you can also play on the computer. Computer games are as good as their counterparts in many ways, and the ability to get instant access to many of your favorites is one reason why.

Regardless of what types of games you like, there is something out there for you. With all the new technologies out there that are being developed as we speak, it is not hard to envision a space age like game system that we step into and play virtually. While this may seem rather impossible, so too did the graphics and game play that we now enjoy with our current game consoles. It may just happen someday, but in the meantime we have thousands of gaming options to enjoy.

Heather Morris, Photographer Court Controversy with "Bruised-Up Barbie" Pics

Has Tyler Shields crossed a line?

A new spread of Glee star Heather Morris depicts the actress with a black eye, causing many to wonder why a photographer would actually invoke an image of domestic violence in such a way. Easy, says the man behind it: I didn't.

"In no way were we promoting domestic violence," Shields tells E! News "We wanted to do a bruised-up Barbie shoot and that's exactly what we did!"

More shots are available at Tyler's official site. They all feature Morris with a black eye; some involve the use of an iron and its chord.

"I don't know if Tyler is aware but I'm quite sure there are plenty of women who have been abused by these kinds of household appliances and children as well being hit with electrical cords," says Rita Smith, executive director for the Denver-based National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. "I'm not sure what the purpose is other than shock value."

Shields has courted controversy in the past with photo shoots. There was this one of Lindsay Lohan, covered in blood, just a few weeks ago.

What do you think of the artist's latest work? Has he gone too far?

When a Man Watches Barbie ? CoupleThings Blog

?

I (Rowan here) stumbled upon my wife and daughters (ages 36, 7 and 5) watching a Barbie movie, ?Island Princess,? to be exact.? Not having the agenda to watch it myself for content (!), I leaned into the other reasons to stop?and watch the movie with them: to spend time with them, and to analyze the appeal of this famous franchise!

?

It was an insight extravaganza into the female soul.? Here are some surface renderings of what I saw.? (If you?re a man who has?ever wondered about what goes on behind the eyes of the other sex, hopefully this will stir some thought. If you?re a lady, please feel free to clarify my findings).

?

Relational Saturation:? EVERYTHING in the movie was about, or heavily couched in relationships: Barbie?s friendships with the island animals, later with those in ?civilization,? and ultimately with the prince.? This movie showed relationship as the lens to see the world through, and was even?used solely as the basis for tension and plot. I looked at?my girls, amazed: Wow, is that what goes on in there ? ALL THE TIME?!

?

Romantic Climax:? If relationships?generally are the basis of everything, then the romantic relationship is the I CHING of life, period! Everything builds to this in the movie, with?the insinuation that the rest of life flows from it. Now, our girls are quite sheltered from mainstream culture as?we are careful what influences we let into our home -?but as I sat with them and watched their faces,?they were thoroughly glued to the screen!?I was?left to wonder, how much of a woman?s hope, happiness, and?satisfaction in life is left in the hands of her prince?? What kind of prince am I?

?

Rescued, Discovered, Pursued:?This is important: the rescuing, discovering and pursing of who Barbie is happens in layers.?Layer 1) Uh oh, Barbie gets shipwrecked, but rescued by the Island animals, discovered as a great friend and?becomes?accepted and pursued by them.?Layer 2)?She?s?discovered and rescued from isolation?by the Prince (and his?loyal but unaffected?assistant) who pursues her for something more than friendship. Layer 3) Events transpire to?rescue Barbie from the King?s?rejection and disdain.?Even he discovers her?true character, and?she?s then approved of (pursued) as a wife for his son. The only tensions in the movie, at each stage, are whether?she?will be rescued, discovered?and pursued.?

?

It makes me wonder, what layer are my 3 girls?at right now???I want to recognize?the junctures at which they need rescuing, discovering and pursuing.? Sometimes I?ll?only be able?to watch and hope and be a friend; in others I?ll need to act and speak the truth into their tender hearts.?

?

Guys, will you and I be the unseeing King, the?unaffected assistant, or the?always-believing Prince?? Ladies, may we have your hand, your friendship and your trust?? Deep down, it?s what we want to fight for.
