Merkel party loses support after female hiring quota dispute: poll

BERLIN (Reuters) - Support for German Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives has fallen by 2 percentage points to 39 percent after a dispute over quotas requiring companies to hire more women executives, an opinion poll published on Sunday showed.

Rebel members of Merkel's centre-right coalition, including Labor Minister Ursula von der Leyen, threatened to break ranks and vote with opposition parties that wanted to introduce a female quota from 2018, convinced that voluntary pledges to appoint more women have proven inadequate.

Merkel averted the potentially embarrassing defeat in parliament when the rebels accepted a compromise plan obliging big firms to raise the proportion of women on supervisory boards to 30 percent in 2020.

Emnid said the incident was likely the reason for the conservatives becoming less popular with voters.

The weekly Emnid poll for German newspaper Bild am Sonntag showed the Free Democrats (FDP), the junior coalition partner in Merkel's centre-right government, has 5 percent support, unchanged from last week and enough for the liberal, pro-business party to enter parliament after the next election.

That would give the ruling government 44 percent support, close to the 47 to 48 percent usually needed for a parliamentary majority in a system where parties with less than 5 percent do not get any seats.

The poll showed the main opposition Social Democrats (SPD) remained unchanged at 26 percent support, while the Greens held steady at 14 percent, giving those parties 40 percent combined - not enough to beat the ruling government.

The socialist Die Linke party was also unchanged at 8 percent. The maverick Pirates gained one point to 4 percent.

The poll of 2,410 people was conducted between April 11 and 17.

Obama: Boston capture closes chapter in tragedy

(AP) ? President Barack Obama declared Friday night that the capture of a second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings "closed an important chapter in this tragedy." But he acknowledged that many unanswered questions remain about the motivations of the two men accused of perpetrating the attacks that unnerved the nation.

"The families of those killed so senselessly deserve answers," said Obama, who branded the suspects "terrorists."

The president spoke from the White House briefing room after 10 p.m. on the East Coast, just over an hour after law enforcement officials apprehended 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

The suspect had been holed up in in a boat in a Watertown, Mass., neighborhood. His older brother, 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was also wanted in the bombings and was killed earlier Friday in an attempt to escape police, authorities said.

The capture of the second suspect capped a frenzied week in Boston, Washington and elsewhere around the country.

Letters addressed to Obama and Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., were found to contain traces of poisonous ricin in tests, evoking eerie parallels to the anthrax attacks that followed the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. And a massive explosion leveled a Texas fertilizer plant, leaving at least 14 people dead and more than 200 injured.

In his remarks Friday, Obama told the people of West, Texas, that "they are not forgotten."

But he focused the bulk of his remarks on the day's events in Massachusetts, saying the nation owed a debt of gratitude to law enforcement officials and the city of Boston, which was paralyzed Friday by the manhunt.

The president's praise for law enforcement was echoed by Republican leaders on Capitol Hill. House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio called their actions "a job well done under trying circumstances," while Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said the nation "marveled at the coordination, skill, and bravery of military, intelligence, and law enforcement officials at every level."

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano commended national, state and local law enforcement officials and first responders "who have been and continue to work tirelessly to get to the bottom of the senseless attacks in Boston, and defend and protect the American public."

FBI Director Robert Mueller also praised the agencies and officials involved in the investigation and cited public cooperation as important to the successful outcome.

"The investigation will continue as part of our efforts to seek answers and justice, and there will be no pause in that effort. But tonight, I wish to thank all those who worked so tirelessly throughout the week in the pursuit of safety and justice," Mueller said.

Three people were killed and more than 180 injured in Monday's twin marathon explosions. The manhunt to track down the suspects resulted in the death of an MIT policeman and severely wounded another officer.

The two suspects were identified by authorities and relatives as ethnic Chechens from southern Russia who had been in the U.S. for about a decade and were believed to be living in Cambridge, Mass.

Obama urged the public against rushing to judgment as officials seek answers to the many questions that remain.

"When a tragedy like this happens, with public safety at risk and the stakes so high, it's important that we do this right," he said. "That's why we take care not to rush to judgment ? not about the motivations of these individuals, certainly not about entire groups of people."

GOP Lawmakers Hit TSA Over Sequester Claims; Uniforms Buy

Republicans members on the House Oversight Committee lambasted the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at a hearing Thursday, accusing it of misrepresenting impacts of the sequester and condemning a $50 million uniform purchase made shortly before budget cuts kicked in, according to the Hill.

?

In the days leading up to the sequester, the TSA claimed the cuts would cause longer lines at airport security checkpoints because of the inevitability of furloughs to the agency?s screeners.

?

GOP lawmakers were quick to point out that, almost two months after the $85 million cut took effect, the agency appeared to have concocted a scenario that did not come to pass.

?

?Despite what [Homeland Security] Secretary [Janet] Napolitano said, there are no longer lines, there are no furloughs out there,? said Rep. Jason Chaffetz , R-Utah, chairman of the Oversight Committee?s National Security panel. ?TSA is one place that we can point where services were basically uninterrupted and the effect to the public was minimized.?

?

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight Committee, held nothing back in his indictment of the agency.

?

?You?re here today because you have more resources than you could possibly need,? Issa said.

?

?Your agency is constantly known as TSA: Thousands Standing Around. And the reason is you endlessly including more and more people doing less and less.?

?

Issa voiced disbelief on the subject of the TSA avoiding furloughs, despite the sequester.

?

?You?ve made cuts in areas that could potentially endanger America, because you have not been willing to have attrition and right-sizing,? Issa?said.

?

?You haven?t encouraged alternatives to federal employees when you could?ve.

?

Issa also blasted the TSA over a $50 million TSA uniform contract that was signed in the weeks leading up to sequester.?

?

He argued that deal burdened the agency with a big credibility problem.

?

?Until people going thru the checkpoints see the efficiency of people with blue uniforms, and I?d like those blue uniforms to be a less expensive the next time you buy them, they?re not going to believe anything you say,? Issa?said.

Email Marketing - Its not that hard - ShoeMoney Internet Marketing ...

Email Marketing ? Its not that hard.

Most of you know me as ShoeMoney ? The incredibly handsome and most talented internet/affiliate marketer in the history of the internet. Yes, as you can see I have grown more humble since the launch of my #1 best selling book (sorry I can?t turn it off).

ANYHOW ? the last year I decided to start a new company dedicated to taking a one time website visitor interested in your product or service and turning them into a life long buyer. I am not even going to say the name of the company because I don?t want you to feel like this article is like pressing you to buy my stuff.

I started the new company because I saw there was a HUGE gap between the rinky dink email newsletter services that are very crappy and have horrid deliverability and cheap and the super high end ones like Marketo & Eloqua (which still have crap deliverability) that are priced at tens of thousands of dollars per year. So the market we are going after is really huge and I feel for me a great new venture.

That is how is how I got to where I am at and what I am about to share from working with clients. Its been a year working with clients capturing their one time website visitors and turning them into life long customers. And its taken off like a rocket.

One of the biggest surprises to me is how companies view their email marketing efforts. When we first start to work with them they look at it as a ?fire away? tool when they have some sort of sale or press release. Who wants to read that? Not me. And even if your the company owner probably not you either.

When did companies lose focus of this? Or have they ever really had it?

Many of our clients see up to 25% of their overall sales come through our emails. Why? Because we build relationship with people.

Lets say you have a booth at Affiliate Summit. Getting a booth, staffing, and other misc expenses can add up a lot? but I am not telling you this.

Lets say someone comes up to your booth and asks you about your product. They ask you what makes you different then the other 10 companies at Affiliate Summit with booths. They ask you how you got started, your background, and why you are better than your competition.

Now you have incredible answers for these people right? AND you are probably going to close a huge percentage of them because you have had that one to one interaction with them.

You didn?t just punch them in the face with a sales pamphlet that made them feel violated. You built a real relationship with them that is going to want to make them do business with you. Even if they could get a better deal.

But 1000x more people, as equally qualified as a lead, visit your website every day because they are interested in the product or server that you are offering but there is NO possible way a one time website visitor is going to build any remote connection to you on that visit. Odds are they come back and buy a product or service from your competitor.

But if you capture this lead and then send them value added emails? Just like if they were to come up to your booth then you can guarantee that when the time comes for them to purchase a product or service like you are offering they will buy from you?. and not go back to Google.

Stop delivering intrusive emails to your prospects and give them value. Educate them on the space and your company. Communicate to them everything that you would have if they came up to your booth at a trade show. After all you are getting 1000x more leads then at any trade show. Why not put in place an automated system that continues the relationship after they visited the website?

Your sales will increase drastically. Some of our clients are doing more then 25% of ALL of their sales through our email sequencing.

Your spam complaints will drop, your sales will soar,
your customers will not feel violated.

There is no reason why you can?t get started doing this right away if you have the resources. If you are looking for someone to completely take this off of your companies plate from A-Z then contact us at http://www.parprogram.com for a free demo on how we can work together to start rapidly growing your companies sales.
