Public Relations and its Use in Marketing Automation | Business 2 ...

Public relations is perhaps the oldest form of marketing. As such, some digital marketers may view it as a world apart from their own and ignore it because it seems irrelevant. But in our view, nothing could be further from the truth. PR is a vital part of marketing automation. Here are some reasons.

  • PR is an important source of written content. Marketing automation needs large amounts of well-written content, and PR can feed that machine. PR departments (or firms) help to refine messages, arrange interviews with trade publications, place articles in those publications, write whitepapers, and develop web pages. These are perfect adjuncts to a drip marketing campaign because prospects on the sidelines will only pay attention to something new ? not regurgitated sales talk. Customer wins, product releases and awards are a few of the types of news tidbits that work very well for such a campaign.
  • PR is very useful for SEO. Consultants always emphasize the need for backlinks (other sites linking to your site via a keyword in the anchor text). Content syndication (other sites that display press releases or report news) can generate more organic traffic. In turn, this could result in more form fills on your site and opt-ins for nurturing campaigns.
  • You can create social buzz with PR. It?s easy to create Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages, but it?s hard to engage an audience on an ongoing basis. PR can publish on those platforms and maintain interactions. Again, this can drive traffic to your website and could result in more form fills. But fundamentally it?s about having sustained conversations and relationships in places and spaces where prospects want to be.

The digital world has created (and will continue to create) a plethora of communication channels that require care and feeding with credible content. Having a good public relations plan is more important than ever for building prospect relationships via marketing automation.

Stem cells repair hearts early in life, but not in adults

ScienceDaily (July 30, 2012) ? Stem cells can actually replace dead heart tissue after a heart attack very early in life -- but those same cells lose that regenerative ability in adults, according to researchers at Cornell University and the University of Bonn.

The study, using mice as subjects, found that undifferentiated precursor cells grow new heart cells in a two-day-old mouse, but not in adult mice, settling a decades-old controversy about whether stem cells can play a role in the recovery of the adult mammalian heart following infarction -- where heart tissue dies due to artery blockage.

"While the existence of these cells in adults is controversial, if one did have fully capable stem cells in adults, why are there no new heart cells after an infarct? Whether this is due to a lack of stem cells or to something special about the infarct that inhibits stem cells from forming new heart cells is the question we addressed, taking advantage of the fact that the newborn mouse has these cells," said Michael Kotlikoff, dean of Cornell's College of Veterinary Medicine and senior author of the paper. The paper will appear Aug. 29 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Kotlikoff and his fellow researchers found that two-day-old mice grew new heart cells and almost completely recovered from infarction, proving that the injury did not inhibit stem cells from growing new heart cells. The same procedure was carried out on adult mice and no new heart cells formed, confirming that adults do not have the requisite stem cells to create new heart cells, called myocytes, though new blood vessel cells were created.

The stem cells found in the adult heart "have lost the ability to become heart cells, and are only capable of forming new vessels," Kotlikoff said. Single stem cells differentiate into all tissues at the start of life, but over time these cells become "developmentally restricted" or specialized to form only certain tissues.

Sophie Jesty, Michele Steffey, and Frank Lee are the paper's lead authors and the work is part of a long-term collaboration with Professor Bernd Fleischmann's team at the University of Bonn.

The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health, New York State Stem Cell Science and the European Union Seventh Framework Programme.

    Apple-Samsung PatentFight Shifts to Demo | ApostolicCM.com ...

Patent trials are part bombast, part boredom. Lurid accusations of corporate skulduggery and deceit quickly give way to a mind-numbing slog through the technical details and vague dialect of patent claims.

A jury will be asked to examine all that to settle a new dispute between Apple and Samsung Electronics beginning Monday in a federal court in San Jose, Calif.

The jury trial is the most recent phase in a global plan of smartphone patent litigation that began a lot more than two years ago. The legal clashes mainly opening Apple against rival smartphone makers whose handsets are powered simply by Google?s Android software, notably Samsung, HTC and Motorola Mobility, which Google bought last 12 months. Dozens of lawsuits and countersuits happen to be filed in courtrooms around the world.

Yet the escalating patent battle is greater than just legal maneuvering. Patents can be powerful tools for determining the principles of engagement for major companies within a fast-growing industry like smartphones.

Patents are declarations of invention which are often easily obtained from federal patent examiners, but their real value ? the validity and strength ? is resolute in court.

A few significant rulings in favor of one side or the other, industry and patent experts point out, could shape the competitive landscape in smartphones as well as a sister industry, tablet computers. Court decisions, they say, can provide the basis intended for negotiating the terms and cost of licensing and cross-licensing associated with patents ? or for keeping certain patented features exclusive to a single company.

?Once you determine who would be the genuine innovator, and in what technologies about the product, you reset the playing discipline, ? said Kevin G. Rivette, a Silicon Valley patent consultant and former vice president for intellectual property technique for I. B. M.

But to bring a real shift in the market, Mr. Rivette added, one side must have ?strong patents, not incremental ones. ?

That issue is much disputed, and litigated, in the smartphone arena.

Apple scored some points inside June. Judge Lucy H. Koh, who will also preside on the jury trial that begins this kind of week, issued a preliminary injunction versus Samsung, ordering it to stop promoting its Galaxy Nexus smartphone in the usa.

Judge Koh found that Samsung had infringed with an Apple patent for a ?universal screen, ? which broadly describes crucial ingredients present in Siri, Apple?s question-answering application (though the patent itself was filed simply by Apple before it acquired Siri this season).

But the power of smartphone patents normally suffered a blow in one more federal court in June.

Richard A. Posner, a prominent federal appeals judge judge in Chicago, dismissed a case involving Apple company and Google?s Motorola Mobility subsidiary. In his ?pox on both of your respective houses? ruling, Judge Posner ridiculed Apple?s broad claims for the user-experience patents and Motorola?s claim that Apple should pay it some sort of rich royalty on its simple communications patents. Both companies are appealing in which ruling.

Fierce patent battles in new industries are actually the rule for regarding green century, from the steam engine in order to semiconductors. The lessons of history are generally decidedly mixed.

Sometimes, patent warriors can hold off rivals for a long time, as the Wright brothers did in the airplane business ? though the charge in time, money and innovative energy diverted was daunting even then. In 1912, Wilbur Wright wrote, ?When we think what we might have accomplished if we ended up able to devote this time for you to experiments, we are very sad. ?

In smartphones, some analysts say, the sheer number of patents as well as the speed of innovation in product development undermine the ability of patents. Because a smartphone combines numerous communications and computing technologies, as many as 250, 000 patents may touch it, according to estimates by RPX, a patent licensing company.

?You necessarily litigate individual patents, but there are thousands of patents behind those in court, ? said Mark A. Lemley, a patent expert at your Stanford Law School. ?That complexity and the speed of innovation may make it easier to invent about the patent system in smartphones. ?

Indeed, for its new Galaxy types, Samsung developed an alternative to among the Apple-patented features cited in this specific week?s trial.

Australian media slam men's swim relay choke

Australian media on Monday lashed out at their world champion men's 4x100m freestyle relay team's failure to win an Olympic medal, calling it one of the country's greatest swimming disasters.

The Sydney Daily Telegraph lamented a "dark day", with James "Missile" Magnussen, the fastest man in the world this year, singled out after swimming a sluggish first leg.

"Our failure to win a medal in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay is our greatest swimming disaster in a rich history that dates back to Fanny Durack winning gold at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics," it said on its website.

Australia went into the race led by the two quickest 100m swimmers this year in Magnussen and James "Rocket" Roberts, plus former world record holder Eamon Sullivan, and Matt Targett.

They were hot favourites but flopped, finishing outside the medals in fourth behind winners France, the United States and Russia.

"The so-called 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' were the hottest of hot favourites to win the gold medal but all four swimmers swam badly," the Telegraph said, adding that they "bombed out in a big way".

The Sydney Morning Herald screamed "Relay team's final choke" and said the dazed Magnussen's Games were in pieces.

"James Magnussen's Olympic campaign is currently in tatters after the 21-year-old sensation suffered the first major disappointment of his career," it said.

"Australia has only ever seen the confident, bold and freakishly fast James Magnussen.

"On Sunday night at the Olympic pool in London, they saw a shattered man, wandering around in a daze and staring into space. He did not know how to react to defeat."

The Australian broadsheet also focused on Magnussen, saying: "Dud Missile shocks relay teammates".

"A year ago James Magnussen sent shockwaves through the world of swimming, and now he has done it again, but this time he is the one left devastated," the newspaper said.

"Magnussen has been untouchable since he burst on to the scene at the world titles in Shanghai last year, leading the relay team to a gold medal and then backing up to win the world title. But he was all too vulnerable in London."

Magnussen must now refocus for the individual 100m later in the week where he has been widely expected to challenge Brazilian rival Cesar Cielo's world record.

(AP) ? Jimmie Johnson fondly recalls watching the Indianapolis 500 as a kid in California, rearranging the couch cushions so he could pretend he was sitting in a race car.

Johnson's grandfather was an A.J. Foyt fan. Johnson liked Rick Mears. And now Johnson might be mentioned in the same breath as those two drivers and other Indy greats.

Johnson stamped another exclamation point on his racing resume Sunday, a dominant drive that ended with his fourth career Brickyard 400 victory.

"I'm able to join racing legends, my heroes and people I looked up to my entire life," Johnson said. "To join them was a huge, huge honor."

With the win, Johnson joined Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon as the only NASCAR drivers to win four times at the historic 2.5-mile track, which has hosted stock car racing since 1994.

The victory also puts Johnson among some top names in the track's record books.

Only three drivers have won four Indianapolis 500s: Foyt, Mears and Al Unser Sr. Formula One ace Michael Schumacher won the U.S. Grand Prix five times on Indy's road course configuration.

Johnson took it all in during a unique family moment of his own after the race, taking a victory lap in a pace car with his wife, his daughter and his crew guys all piled on board.

"You can actually soak in the moment, and look around and realize that you're at the Brickyard ? and won ? was really special," Johnson said.

And while his daughter, Genevieve, enjoyed playing with a microphone in Johnson's postrace news conference, they couldn't convince her to join in as they completed the tradition of kneeling to kiss the yard of bricks at the start/finish line.

"She wasn't into it," Johnson joked.

Johnson also won the Brickyard in 2006, 2008 and 2009.

"They're that good, and they deserve it," Gordon said.

Kyle Busch finished second, followed by Greg Biffle, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Gordon. Polesitter Denny Hamlin was sixth.

It was a rough day for Matt Kenseth, who came into Sunday's race with the Sprint Cup Series points lead but was taken out of the race in a late collision with Joey Logano.

While Johnson ruled the day, Earnhardt walked away with the points lead ? 14 points ahead of Kenseth.

"We've persevered all year, and we've done good work all year," Earnhardt said. "I think it is a bit of a confidence booster, something I'm proud of because we've worked hard all year and we've got something to show for it."

But Johnson's big moment was seen by another disappointing crowd at what still is considered one of the Sprint Cup Series' most prestigious races.

After drawing huge crowds for more than a decade after the first NASCAR race at Indianapolis in 1994, attendance has been sagging in recent years. The front-stretch stands were fairly full but there were sparse crowds in the turns.

The track estimated that attendance was 125,000, although media estimates were lower.

Jeff Burton's flat tire brought out a caution with 36 laps to go, giving the leaders an opportunity to make their final pit stops.

Johnson, Brad Keselowski, Gordon and Busch all took four tires on their stops ? but Biffle only took two tires, allowing him to come out of the pits first.

The race restarted with 31 laps to go, with Biffle taking the lead and Johnson fighting off Busch to hold on to second.

Biffle's lead didn't last long, as Johnson went around him on the front stretch with 29 laps to go.

"It didn't really matter if you were in front of him or not, he was going to pass you in about four or five laps anyway," Biffle said. "His car was just really, really good."

Joey Logano then spun and collected Kenseth, leaving his car banged-up and smoldering. Kenseth was OK ? but his points lead was gone after he finished 35th.

"Everybody was just running everybody in the back, and you could see it was just a matter of time before the wreck happened," Kenseth said.

Johnson got a flawless restart when the race went back to green with 20 laps to go, then pulled away from Busch in the closing laps of the race.

Keselowski was going for a weekend sweep after winning the Nationwide Series race at Indianapolis on Saturday. And for a while, it looked like he might pull it off.

Keselowski and the No. 2 team experimented with a different pit stop strategy than the rest of the leaders, attempting to set up the possibility of stretching their fuel mileage at the end of the race.

Keselowski pitted on lap 91, while the rest of the leaders pitted under caution four laps later.

But Keselowski's car got loose after the race restarted on lap 101, and he slid back to seventh ? a significant setback, given how hard it is to pass at Indianapolis.

"I just made too many mistakes," Keselowski said. "It's hard to be mad with a top 10. I'm not mad, but no, I'm not happy. I want to win these races. I want to be a legit contender to win the big races and we were today. I just didn't close it out."

It was a tough day for Carl Edwards, whose engine began losing power only a handful of laps into the race.

In his first race with new crew chief Chad Norris, Edwards qualified second but began dropping in the field after an apparent engine malfunction. Edwards finished 29th, left Indianapolis 12th in the points and is in danger of missing NASCAR's season-ending Chase.

"We have to take chances," Edwards said. "We have to go race. We can do that, we can race like that. It will actually be a big relief in a way because there is no other choice. We just go race for wins. I wouldn't bet against us. We can do it."

Storms May Speed Ozone Loss Above the U.S.

Summer storms in the United States inject water into the atmosphere at altitudes up to 20 kilometres, accelerating ozone-destroying reactions. Image: Rick D?Elia/Corbis

Showcasing more than fifty of the most provocative, original, and significant online essays from 2011, The Best Science Writing Online 2012 will change the way...

    From Nature magazine

Summer thunderstorms across the United States inject water vapour far higher into the atmosphere than was previously believed, promoting a cascade of chemical reactions that could pose an increased threat to Earth?s protective ozone layer as the climate warms.

James Anderson, an atmospheric chemist at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and his colleagues made the discovery while investigating the origins of high-altitude cirrus clouds ? thin and wispy formations that blanket the sky and trap heat, contributing to the greenhouse effect.

Anderson?s team expected to see summer storms supply cirrus clouds by pumping water vapour up to an average altitude of about 14 kilometres. Instead, the researchers report today in Science1, about half of the storms that they studied injected vapour to altitudes of between 15 and 20 kilometres.

?We were shocked,? says Anderson. ?Standard, run-of-the-mill Midwestern thunderstorms are far more capable of injecting water vapour into the stratosphere than we once thought.?

There are significant implications for stratospheric ozone, which shields the Earth from ultraviolet radiation. Ozone can be destroyed by reactions with chlorine and water ? and the rates of those reactions are governed mainly by temperature and the presence of water vapour. If, as expected, storm activity increases owing to global warming, says Anderson, the proportion of water in the stratosphere will increase, leading to accelerating destruction of stratospheric ozone ? and an increase in the amount of ultraviolet radiation reaching Earth.

    Climate calculations

Andrew Dessler, an atmospheric scientist at Texas A&M University in College Station, says that further observations are needed to understand all the implications. ?I?m not at all surprised that this happens,? he says, ?but I think a challenge is really going to be quantifying all aspects of the problem? including the frequency of the water-vapour injections and any resulting stratospheric chlorine reactions.

The affected area of the stratosphere ? between 15 and 20 kilometres in altitude ? contains about 20% of the total stratospheric ozone, and Anderson says that the water-vapour injections could provide conditions for rapid ozone destruction similar to those that scientists have been investigating for decades in Antarctica and more recently in the Arctic.

Currently, water vapour occupies about 5 parts per million by volume (p.p.m.v.) of the affected parts of the stratosphere. If that were to increase to 12 p.p.m.v., up to 25% of the ozone in the affected zone could be destroyed within a week. If water-vapour content climbed to 18 p.p.m.v., about 35% of the ozone could be destroyed in the same time frame.

Kerry Emanuel, a climatologist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, says that the study adds urgency to an issue that his profession has yet to clear up: how will storms respond to climate change? ?We really don?t know the answer to that,? he says. ?This is a surprisingly under-developed field.?

    Geoengineering risk
The study also raises questions about geoengineering ? the concept of manipulating the environment to mitigate climate change. One method of geoengineering currently being considered would involve pumping sulphate aerosols into the stratosphere to reflect sunlight back into space and cool the planet. But sulphate particles also act as catalysts for ozone-destroying reactions, so such a scheme could speed the reactions. ?The worst cocktail you can think of is to inject a combination of sulphur and water into the stratosphere, and that is exactly what would be happening,? says Anderson. ?Nature would be injecting the water, and humans would be injecting the sulphates.?

US Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney visits the Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City on July 29, 2012 during the annual Tisha B'Av (Ninth of Av) fasting and a memorial day, commemorating the destruction of ancient Jerusalem temples. JERUSALEM?? Mitt Romney stepped forcefully into a diplomatic stalemate here Sunday by calling on the United States and Israel to use "any and all measures" to lead the effort to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

In an impassioned speech delivered from a balcony overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem, Romney said the United States would support Israel's efforts to defend itself. But the Republican presidential hopeful stopped short of asserting that he would support a unilateral military strike by Israel to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear capability.

"We must not delude ourselves into thinking that containment is an option," Romney said. "We must lead the effort to prevent Iran from building and possessing nuclear weapons capability. We should employ any and all measures to dissuade the Iranian regime from its nuclear course, and it is our fervent hope that diplomatic and economic measures will do so.

"In the final analysis, of course, no option should be excluded," Romney said. "We recognize Israel's right to defend itself, and that it is right for America to stand with you."

The presumptive nominee delivered his address after a series of back-to-back meetings with top Israeli and Palestinian officials, network television interviews and a surprise visit to the Western Wall in Jerusalem, one of Judaism's holiest religious sites.

In his speech, Romney declared Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel. The United States does not recognize Jerusalem as the capital and keeps its embassy in Tel Aviv.

The former Massachusetts governor outlined an aggressive world view in his public statements Sunday, but he did not offer any new policy specifics. There is little daylight between his policy approach to Iran and the policies President Barack Obama has pursued in office, although Romney used more heated rhetoric to describe the Iranian threat.

international sanctions against Iran are given time to work but has assured Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel has the right to act in its own national security interests. Some in the administration fear that an Israeli strike against Iran could ignite a regional war.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak issued a statement Saturday thanking Obama after he signed an act upgrading security ties with Israel, but there was no such declaration by Netanyahu. Obama's step was seen as an attempt to parry Romney's visit here.

Romney has pledged not to criticize Obama while he is outside the United States, and said in an interview with CBS News, "I think because I'm on foreign soil I don't want to be creating new foreign policy for my country or in any way to distance myself in the foreign policy of our nation. But we respect the right of a nation to defend itself."

On Sunday morning, a senior Israeli official denied a report in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz that Obama's national security adviser, Tom Donilon, had briefed Netanyahu during a recent visit on American plans for a possible attack on Iran.

The report, which cited an unnamed senior American official, coincided with the start of Romney's meetings here and appeared to underline Obama's readiness to use military force. "Nothing in the article is correct," said the Israeli official, who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue.

The report came at the start of a full day of official meetings designed for Romney to deepen his ties with Israeli leaders, including Netanyahu, a friend of Romney's since they worked together as business consultants in the 1970s.

Romney met with Netanyahu on Sunday morning at the prime minister's Jerusalem offices and was planning a formal joint news statement with President Shimon Peres at the president's house.

Penn State May Loan Athletic Department Money to Pay Off NCAA Fines

Justin K. Aller/Getty Images(STATE COLLEGE, Pa.) -- Penn State University is considering a loan to its athletic department in an effort to pay the $60 million fine imposed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association for its role in ignoring past sexual abuse of young boys, according to Penn State President Rodney Erickson.

?And in all likelihood the university will have to extend the athletic department a long-term loan that they can pay back as they get on their feet, and as we adjust their budget going forward in the football program,? Erickson said Sunday on CBS?s Face the Nation.

He also said that the university would dip into the athletic department?s reserve fund along with a long term loan from the school itself.

In the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, which has sent shockwaves through the State College, Pa., community over the past eight months, the NCAA hit the university with the unprecedented $60 million fine and capped scholarships for players.

The massive fine and harsh sanctions come in the aftermath of a damning report issued by former FBI director Louis Freeh, which harshly criticized the university and longtime football Coach Joe Paterno for failing to take action in the sex abuse case of Sandusky, his former assistant coach.

The university president promised the fines will be paid from athletic reserve funds.? Penn State makes $60 million on football alone every season.? The fines will not affect the education of the other 80,000 non-football playing students, Erickson said.

In addition to the fines, the university will likely face multiple lawsuits from abuse victims.? Erickson said Penn State is properly insured for liability but is not looking for a long drawn-out fight in court.

?We hope to be able to settle as many of these cases as quickly as possible.? We don?t want to, if at all possible, drag victims through another round of court cases and litigation,? he said.

Penn State faces significant financial challenges in the years to come.? The university already has about $1 billion in debt and risks a downgrade to its creditworthiness, according to a report put out by Moody?s Analytic last year.

Unrelated to the university?s money problem, Erickson also issued an on-screen apology for the school for the first time.

?We?re deeply sorry and sad, regretful that this happened at our university.? We want to do the right thing.? We want to help them in their healing process,? he said.

Russia warns of looming 'tragedy' in Aleppo

Russia warned Saturday that a "tragedy" was looming in Syria's second city of Aleppo but said it was unrealistic to expect Damascus to stand by when armed rebels were occupying major cities.

"We are persuading the government that they need to make some first gestures," Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a news conference alongside his Japanese counterpart.

"But when the armed opposition are occupying cities like Aleppo, where yet another tragedy is brewing, as I understand ... it is not realistic to expect that they (the government) will accept this," Lavrov added.

The Syrian army launched a fightback against rebels in Aleppo on Saturday amid concern among Western governments about reprisals against the civilian population of the country's second city.

"How can you hope that in such a situation, the government will simply reconcile itself and say, 'All right, I was wrong. Come on and topple me, change the regime'?" Lavrov asked rhetorically.

"It's just not realistic -- not because we are holding onto this regime -- but it simply doesn't work," he told the news conference in the southern city of Sochi which was broadcast live by state media.

In Syria, "excesses are committed from all sides. ... We need to put pressure on all of them," Lavrov said, accusing Western countries of providing assistance to the opposition fighters.

"Our Western partners ... together with some of Syria's neighbours are essentially encouraging, supporting and directing an armed struggle against the regime."

"The price of this is yet more blood," he said.

Russia has repeatedly rejected accusations that Moscow is backing the regime of President Bashar al-Assad in the conflict, claiming to have an even-handed approach while rebuking the West for siding with the rebels.

Lavrov also told reporters on Saturday there were meetings planned in the near future with Syrian rebels "in Russia and foreign countries where these boys are based," and that the point driven home would be "that if it is a revolution, they must not seek the backing of the UN Security Council".

When asked later Saturday if Russia would provide Assad with asylum, he said: "We are not even thinking of that," Russian news agencies reported.

Last week Russia along with China for the third time vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on Syria that would have threatened sanctions against Assad, to the outrage of Western nations.

Missing baby Alyssa is found - Stuff

TAKEN: Toddler Alyssa Barker was taken from her Helensville home by an adult family friend.

    Alyssa Barker

    Supplied

MISSING: Alyssa Barker in the tights she was wearing at the time she was taken from her home.

A missing toddler was last night reunited with her parents after a desperate 36-hour search for her and her alleged abductor.

A woman responded to a nationwide appeal on Alyssa Barker's abduction after seeing pleas on last night's news and called police when her alleged kidnapper fell asleep.

Alyssa was taken from her Makudhrau home, near Kaukapakapa, north of Auckland, on Friday afternoon allegedly by Skye Mason, 27, who had been sleeping rough before being taken in by the toddler's good samaritan parents.

Another good samaritan in Swanson, West Auckland, took the pair in last night, and was responsible for reuniting the toddler with her family.

She watched the 6pm news last night and recognised the woman and child who were staying with her as Mason and Alyssa.

The woman waited until they were asleep and called the police at 9.15pm to notify them.

Alyssa was last night reunited with her parents, and 27-year-old Mason has been taken into police custody.

Police who attended the Swanson address say Alyssa is well and doesn't seem to be suffering any ill-effects as a result of her 36-hour absence from her home.

Detective Inspector Stan Brown of Waitakere Police said he and his staff were delighted to be able to return Alyssa to her family and very grateful to media for their support during what was a nervous search.

"This is one story that does not have a tragic end for a child and for that, we are very happy."

The toddler was moved around the Auckland area by her abductor, beginning in her home in Makudhrau, then was spotted 50km away in Glen Eden.

The Swanson home where she was finally found was another 10kms away.

Uniformed officers and about 30 search and rescue staff yesterday carried out door-to-door inquiries in Auckland, and also called in the Eagle and Westpac rescue helicopters in their search for the pair.

They were seen leaving the Makudhrau property about 3pm on Friday, and police said they had no idea how they travelled to Glen Eden, where seven hours later they visited the home of one of Mason's friends.

Police were called, but the pair had gone by the time they arrived at the property, and they had been unable to confirm a later sighting at Riverhead, north of Auckland.

Mason was living rough in the Rodney/Orewa area north of Auckland when Alyssa's family took her in. She stayed two days before vanishing with the toddler.

Alyssa's mother - who also has a three-month-old - was in the house when Mason, who has no immediate access to a car but has a small amount of money, left. Police have confirmed Mason has a history of mental illness and a small criminal history.

"She had been living a little bit rough and this family had taken her in for the last couple of days to try and look after her," Brown said. "They thought they were doing the right thing."

People who knew Mason about five years ago yesterday told the Sunday Star-Times she had been a good mother who took courses to try and improve her parenting, but had drifted into P use.

Last night Child, Youth and Family operations general manager Marama Edwards said Mason's own children were safe and well. "Our primary concern is for the safety and wellbeing of this little girl, and we urge Skye to return her safely - and to do it immediately."

Last night the father of Coral Burrows, who endured 10 days before his missing daughter was tragically found, pleaded to Mason to take Alyssa home.

Ron Burrows said it was every parent's nightmare. "Hand her back, I beg you," he said. "There is nothing worse than having your baby taken away. It is the ultimate nightmare." He said Alyssa's parents had tried to help someone out of the goodness of their hearts. "And then she has gone and done the unthinkable. I hate to think what they are going through. My heart goes out to them, but everyone is out there looking and the main thing is that everyone keeps an eye out for her."

Burrows said he had endured heartbreak when his six-year-old vanished from her home in the Wairarapa town of Featherston in 2003.

Coral's body was found 10 days later, and her stepfather, Steven Williams, was later convicted of her murder.

If you are planning on starting a new business, you are expected to be aware of the many tasks involved in becoming successful in such a venture. On top of product creation, management, maintenance, you also have to worry about the technical aspects involved in bringing about the required results in making your products and services marketable to your business?s target audience. You have to make use of online business ideas, and not just the old and tried business ideas; a lot of research are required to be undertaken in the midst of the changing landscape of online which will make it possible for you to come up with a new online business strategy that matches a given situation.

Juggling all of these tasks can get unwieldy. But in a business that makes use of variables related to the internet, you can use a related variable such as outsourcing.

Outsourcing is that process in which a company delegates specific services to a third party for a fee. These services include copywriting, SEO, marketing, graphic design, virtual assistant services, and many more. Outsourcing is an efficient and cheaper way to hire labor, resulting to more reserved energy to perform other important tasks required to move the online forward. Outsourcing specified tasks also makes it easier for you to oversee all the aspects of the business and in turn helps with easier management. It also opens up more possibilities as far as online business ideas are concerned. When the possibilities are open, the higher the chance you can discover or come up with a new online business strategy that works.

There are a few guidelines you have to follow in outsourcing your business:

    1. Take some time to learn the aspects involved in the non-technical tasks. Most business owners are non-techies and would be more equipped to handle managerial tasks. Just because you?re outsourcing services doesn?t mean that you won?t have to oversee the goings-on of the projects that you have delegated to other people. Taking the time to learn what works and what doesn?t will allow you to set a standard for all the work that is being done. This ensures that quality work is being done, and that can be good for your business.

    2. Outsource one at a time. At least do this initially. Remember, before you make a long term commitment with a third party company, trust has to be earned first. That trust is earned if the terms of the agreement between your company and the company providing the outsourcing services are met. Once the initial outsourcing task has been done well enough, then that?s the time for you to outsource the other tasks involved in your online business.

    3. Be careful in providing informationWhen you outsource specific tasks, be they copywriting, SEO, or virtual assistance, it is important that you provide only the information (passwords, online business ideas, etc.) required to do the job.

You are doing outsourcing right if you follow these three guidelines. Just stay on your toes and always do a regular check on everything that?s going on about your online business. This should be easy enough since you are delegating these tasks to people you can trust. You may be able to come up with an online business strategy that will take your online business further. And all of these become possible because of outsourcing.

My fellow Americans: Essaouria is the Best ... - Morocco World News

    By Nora P. Goodman

    Morocco World News

    Portland, Oregon, July 29, 2012

In July of 2009, I traveled to Morocco with my son Austin on a month?s vacation. It was not only my son?s first plane ride but his first trip out of the USA.

We arrived in Rabat Morocco and stayed at our friend Said?s family home. Our Moroccan friends were Berbers and spoke Berber, British English, French and Arabic. They greeted us with a lot of hospitality and gave us a bedroom on the lower level of their home. The first morning when we awoke, breakfast was already prepared for us in the sitting area. Breakfast consist of fruit, bread, butter, jam, laughing cow cheese, orange juice, coffee and milk. It was served on a round wooden table with clean linens, lovely plates and coffee cups. Said?s father, Brik was the family cook. He was a retired cook from the local sports stadium and continued his passion in cooking for his family while he and his wife prepared the family meals together. They were a lovely couple who had been married for over fifty years. I admired their faithfulness and commitment to their family and each other. After Brik prepared breakfast, he was off to the Mosque and a local caf? where he met with his lifelong friends to discuss life as usual in Morocco and Said?s mom, Saida began her routine cleaning house. My son and I relaxed for a few days from the long flight then Said and I took Austin to the local sites such as, King Mohammed V?s tomb and the Old Medina. Austin soon fell in love with Morocco as much as I did.

Said decided to take us to the beaches in Agadir and stay at his sister?s home since they were traveling to the north, we traveled by an air conditioned train to Marrakesh to catch a bus to Agadir, as soon as we stepped off the train we gasped for air. The temperature was 51.7?C (125.1?F) and being a fair complexion girl from Portland Oregon, USA, where the sun only shines for three months out of the year, the only example I could give was that it felt like I had stepped into hell. My son and I had never experienced anything like that before. Everyone was panicking and some foreigners were actually crying. We could hardly catch our breath and there was hardly any shade and no building to find appropriate shelter. Everyone was exhausted from the long ride and people were crowding in the shaded corners of the depot. There was nowhere to escape the heat while we were waiting for our bus. Austin bought a soda to quench his thirst but to his surprise it was hot. I wondered why that bus depot did not have appropriate air conditioned shelter along with cold drinks since it was used by many people daily. We waited for about forty minutes for the bus, but it felt like hours. The bus ride to Agadir took about five hours. We thought for sure the weather by the beach would be better but it was just as hot.

When we arrived at the home of Said?s sister we found no air conditioning, no fan and all the hotels with air-conditioning were very expensive. Our first night in Agadir was unbearable. My feet swelled up and I spent most of my night in the shower under cold running water. My son fell asleep by 2:00 AM but tossed and turned most of the night. The next day I suggested we stay in the air conditioned mall to escape the heat. But even the air conditioning did not seem to work very well as the temperatures continued to rise. We were clearly caught in heat wave. That night we stayed at the beach with hundreds of others trying to escape the same torment. Then our taxi driver suggested we go to Essaouria, a small fishing village located on the Atlantic Ocean where the temperatures were much nicer. So the next day we purchased bus tickets to Essaouria and traveled another five hours north. When we stepped off the bus the weather was at least 40 degrees less. It was so refreshing. Austin and I felt so relieved and excited to see the fishing village our taxi driver had bragged about.

While we were unloading our bags and searching for a place to stay, I noticed a small baby kitten sitting in the corner outside the bus station. The kitten was only about three to four weeks old. He was very dirty. I walked slowly to him a picked him up. He barely moved. He was weak and I wondered where his mother was. I looked around but I didn?t see her. I gave him to Austin and helped Said carry our luggage. In the meantime, a few local Moroccan men offered to help us find an apartment and transport our luggage for us also. Morocco has very good hospitality. In less than thirty minutes, we found a nice two bedroom apartment.

As we walked through the16th century old city to our apartment, we didn?t feel the heat but only the breeze of the ocean on our faces. We were so relieved. After we unpacked our luggage, I focused on the kitten. He was so fragile dirty and his eyes were only barely open. Austin and I gave him a bath and cleaned his eyes. Said warned us of diseases and said the wild cats were considered unclean. It didn?t stop us from caring for him and to our surprise, the little fella even changed colors after his bath, he had beautiful white fur and a few black spots. We decided to name him Moses. Moses didn?t know how to eat food on his own or maybe he was too weak. I went to a local market and bought laughing cow cheese, a baby bottle and milk. I put some cheese on the tip of my finger, but he was too weak to eat. I then smeared a little on his mouth and once he got a taste of it he was soon licking it up. Later, he began drinking from the bottle of milk and within days he was running around the apartment playing with Austin.

The city of Essaouria is known by its Portuguese?name of?Mogador. The Berber name means?the wall, a reference to the fortress walls that originally enclosed the city. Austin and I agreed that the city should be nicked named ?the city of cats? because everywhere we went there were cats. There were cats under the tables at the restaurants waiting for scraps of food from the tourist and there were cats in all the shops being cared for by the shop owners. And as we walked along the walls of the city cats were lined up and patiently waiting as the fishermen were cleaning the fish and tossing the left overs to them. It was clear the people of the city loved cats.

The day came when we had to leave to go back to Rabat and then back to USA. No matter how much we begged, Said didn?t want to adopt Moses and bring him to Rabat, so Austin and I began looking for a suitable good home for him. We grew attached to Moses and hated to leave him behind. We even thought of carrying him in our suitcases and bringing him back to USA with us, but we knew it wouldn?t be allowed at the airport and Moses would be caught at the check point. So the only suitable person we could think of to adopt him was a very nice waiter at a local restaurant name Khalid. We shared with him about how we found and rescued Moses and how we thought his name was appropriate. Khalid assured us that he would keep the name and take good care of him.

It?s been three years since we left Essaouria and as far as we know, Moses is still living at the restaurant and being cared for by Khalid and feasting off Tagine and scraps of food from the tourist.

A website that has been professionally improved to be found by search engines on its field of topic will have a larger share of visitors because it will be in the top search results.

Currently, there are three main search engines used. Those search engines are Yahoo, Google and Bing. When a website begins to formulate a plan to improve their rankings on those search engines, it must know something about how those search engines work in directing traffic to online websites.

An website that is needing to advertise online on a limited budget or to do advertising as a small business enterprise can make good use of SEO plans. An online shopper uses Internet Search Engines to find businesses that are selling what the shopper is looking to buy. Getting a website on the first page of search results will improve traffic to the website. A small business owner needs to know the following information that can improve his SEO ranking.

The key force behind SEO marketing is in finding keywords and phrases that are more likely to be used by search engines in searching for online business and services for a specific search. The online researcher types a keyword into a search engine and gets a number of results related to those services and business that match the keyword. The importance of keywords can?t be over estimated by a small business owner who is looking to get more visitors from online traffic. The keywords need to be service or product specific in order to generate more views from search engines.

The most important bit of information to keep in mind is that keywords need to be specific to the field that is being searched. Using analogies or clever phrases as keywords will not generate views from search engines and will not give that website traffic which means that website can sit online with no one knowing that it even exists.

Once a website has put into force, keywords to attract more visitors to their website, they can start to do secondary SEO planning which involves linking their website with other websites online that are similar in scope to their service or product. Linking takes some time and research on the part of the SEO website developer since secondary links to a website must be found.

In doing SEO planning on a website, the planner should keep in mind that it takes time for search engines to find his work. It takes time for searchers to find his website. Eventually, his efforts should pay off with more traffic to the website. But, it takes time to see an improvement due to the millions of online users and to the fierce competition of online businesses.

A website developer can only control his SEO work on his website. The work of other SEO developers on other website are, obviously, beyond his control. And, the work of search engine developers who are constantly improving their keyword specificity to help their customers to find the top services and business in the field being searched is also out of the control of the SEO planner on an individual website.

Wrestler 'The Great Khali' undergoes gland surgery

PITTSBURGH (AP) ? World Wrestling Entertainment star The Great Khali has undergone surgery to remove a pituitary gland tumor that's the cause of his formidable size.

Doctors at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh removed the tumor Wednesday. Hospital spokeswoman Susan Manko says The Great Khali, whose real name is Dalip Singh, is recovering well and is expected to be released over the weekend.

The surgical staff says the tumor caused the production of excessive amounts of growth hormone, leading to Singh to grow to 7-foot-1 and 347 pounds. Failure to treat the problem can lead to cardiovascular problems.

Wrestling star Andre the Giant, who died of congestive heart failure in 1993, had the same condition.

Singh joined WWE in 2006 and earned the World Heavyweight Champion belt the following year.
